Piccola Opera Announces New Season of Events
Piccola Opera will be offering a diverse and exciting season of events in 2018. “We worked hard to
bring together a season which offers something for everyone. As our mission is to enlighten and educate our public with regard to opera, we feel it important to offer a varied repertoire. We are excited to bring these events to Concord and beyond”, says Catherine Martinez, President of Piccola Opera.
Piccola Opera is bringing a sacred music series to All Saints Anglican Church, Concord, beginning March 24 at 7:00 pm with “Songs of the Passion”. This program will offer Lententide music with selected scripture readings with Fr. Christian Tutor, pastor at All Saints Anglican Church. Jane Cormier, Soprano will be featured in this concert. Additional sacred music concerts will be held in May and June. All sacred music concerts are free and open for the public to enjoy.
0n July 20 & 21, Piccola Opera will bring a Summer Festival event, “A Night at the Opera” to the Concord City Audi stage. Featuring professional opera singers along with community performers to this performance will feature selections from “Faust”, “La Boheme”, “La Traviata” and others. “A Night at the Opera” will offer some of the most famous scenes in the operatic world, fully staged in their original language. Bringing these pieces to life, community performers experience the opportunity to learn and grow, while young opera professionals continue to grow their performance experience and resumes. And, our audience is guaranteed to love the results, so everyone involved benefits from this special evening,” says Martinez.
October 20, 7:00 pm will be the annual Opera Idol competition. Staged at the Concord City Audi, this aannual competition will be shared with Opera New Hampshire, bringing over 50 young opera singers to New Hampshire to vie for cash and prizes for the 2018/2019 season of events.
For a unique and fun community offering, Piccola Opera is also hosting “Opera to Die For” on Halloween night as a “dinner & opera” event. This event will feature selections from “Lucia di Lammermoor”, “Pagliacci”, and “Rigoletto” and tickets will be available at our July 20 & 21 Summer Festival.
And, in addition, Piccola Opera will tour their annual “The Dickens Carolers” throughout New Hampshire, celebrating the Yuletide season with Victorian carols in full Victorian dress. Anyone interested in booking “The Dickens Carolers” for 2018 should contact Piccola Opera as soon as possible, as prime performance dates go very quickly.
